Questions Regarding Crime
Crime scene
Crime - what is it?
There are two definitions of the word crime that I found suitable:
- An intentional act of human conduct that causes harm for which the actor is responsible and for which there is a prescribed punishment carried out by the State.
- Crime describes behavior (but not all behavior) that transgresses norms or the norms of particular groups in a position to control behavior.
What behaviors do we find with crime?
Behaviors that coincide with crime include a desire for control, revenge, power, or monetary gain. These desires lead to crimes such as murders, assaults, rapes, burglaries, robberies, white-collar crimes, and auto theft. Violent crimes usually occur when emotions run high. Property crimes are usually planned in advance.
What responsibilities come with crime?
The criminal's responsibilities:
- live with the consequences of their actions
- pay the "price" that society puts on the crime (go to jail, community service, capital punishment)
- living with the emotional pain-body that comes from doing harm against another
- learn to forgive the action and themselves AND move forward
- take responsibility for what they did
The victim's responsibilities:
- learn to live with the action/crime that was committed against them
- stand up for what they believe is "right" or "fair"
- deal with the emotions that come with the action
- learn to forgive the action and themselves AND move forward
- accept responsibility for the role they played
What hidden role does crime play in our lives?
- the hidden roles are actually the same regardless of the point of view
- learn to look within (soul search) at something that "changed their life"
- learn to love themselves in the midst of these actions
- take responsibility for what has happened
