Can Lyrics Destroy You?

Today, I was sitting in the car explaining to my mom about what kind of music I listened to.
I told her about how I admired certain music bands, and I happened to mention Marilyn Manson. Her immediate response was,
"You need to go seek a counselor. I don't want you turning that way."
Appalled, I asked her why, shocked that the a simple music singer would send me to a counselors office.
She said she believed he was a Satanist, and that his words would slowly send people to destruction. I laughed at this thinking of how stupid and illogical it sounded.
Yet she also told me on how a music wasn't the only target. She believed that he used it in power, money, lust, emotions, music and other things that we are most likely to fall into.
She said, Satan used figures from Hitler, to Marilyn Manson to have an affect on people from the past, and till today.
Yet for some reason, I have a feeling she had a certain point.
When I got home, I immediately headed to the computer, listening to the lyrics of the bands I listened to.
I listened to the sorrow, the pain, the destruction, the 'joy', the rebellion, the hate, the love, the want, and of course, the perfection, buried deep underneath the lyrics of some of my favorite songs.
Yet this entire time, I thought it would have no affect on me.
Deep in there, was things telling you on what you had to be. What you had to do to be loved. How you should cope with pain and hate, and much, much more.
Sitting here, I think about how I should look like, be like and so on and so forth. Most of these things related to what was found in magazines to my simple beautiful music that I treasured deeply.
Sitting here now, typing this article I think to myself... "Could these words lead me to destruction?"
Although, I know that there is no force that will stop me from listening to the bands that I believe are a work of art and pure talent, I know that somewhere, under that stupid, illogical comment, she was somehow right.
