Abortion: Freedom of Choice or Murder

Abortion: Freedom of Choice or Murder Baby holding parent's hand

Some people believe abortion is the worst medical advance known to man. On the other hand some think abortion is a highly acceptable practice for women who do not want or are not prepared for children. A handful of people do not choose a side because they believe it can be wrong or right, depending on the situation.

Some believe abortion should only be taken into consideration if the mother is going to be in danger when she delivers the child.

"I am pro-life, though I think that if the mother's life is in danger than different circumstances should be taken into consideration", an anonymous senior said.

Many consider abortion completely wrong, because it is murdering a human being who could grow up, for example, to cure cancer.

"It's murder, and if they have sex they should deal with the consequences", an anonymous senior from Faith Lutheran said.

Dealing with those consequences leaves many women seeking abortion. Abortion has been one of the most practiced outpatient surgeries since 1973. Although many doctors say abortion is the safest outpatient surgery, and is ten times safer than giving birth, a life is being murdered.

Why is abortion outlawed, if murder is?

Many do not view abortion as murder, because they do not believe the fetus is living. At five weeks, the fetus' heart starts beating. Many people do not find out they are pregnant until they are about three to five weeks pregnant. By the time they get to the doctor to talk about the abortion, it is about a week later.

The appointment for the surgery would have to be made about two weeks in advance. By this time, the fetus' heart is already beating, making abortion murder, the ending of life. Abortion is looked down up by many forms of religions such as Christianity, Islam and Buddhism. Faith has a lot to do with the opinions people have formed about abortions.

"If it wasn't for my faith, I wouldn't see murder as wrong, but not wholly because murder is still innately wrong", another senior of Faith Lutheran High School said.

Many religions consider the human life to begin at conception, not at birth, thus aborting a pregnancy desecrates the commandment against murder.

"You shall not murder", Exodus 20:13 says.

According to the religious view on abortion, God created the life living inside of the woman; nothing should be able to take the life away except for God himself. A person is not God, and they should not have the right to take away the lives of others. Furthermore, many women do not realize that having an abortion could hinder their chances on having a child in the future.

Many women use abortions as a form of birth control, instead of taking responsibility of their actions.

All in all, abortion has many consequences: it is looked down upon by many religions, and it can hinder the chances of having a child in the future. Abortion should be considered murder.
