Cassie By Flyleaf

Cassie By Flyleaf Cassie Bernall, victim of the Columbine Massacre in 1999.

The song 'Cassie' was written by the christian band Flyleaf. Lacey Moseley (lead singer) dedicated this song in Cassie Bernall's honor.

Cassie Bernall was born November 6, 1981 and died on April 20, 1999 in Columbine High School in the library. Some references I have read said, "She had problems at home and God was her guidance. Which helped her turned her life around." Some reports claim that Cassie was asked whether she believed in God and her answer was yes, letting Dylan Klebold pull the trigger. Others have said that Valeen Schnurr was the one asked if she believed in God and Cassie Bernall was sitting next to her.

The FBI have confirmed that Cassie was never asked that question.

Lacey Moseley sings a story about how even though Cassie knew what would happen if she said yes, when asked if she believed in God, Cassie had said yes anyway:

Do you believe in God,
Written on the bullet
Say yes to pull the trigger
Do you believe in God
Written on the bullet
And Cassie pulled the trigger
-"Cassie" Flyleaf

Lacey Moselely explains that you should stand up for what you believe in even though it might risk your life or not. Today, in our society, if we are faced with death when we are asked the question "Do you believe in God?", our society turns our back against our beliefs just so we could stay alive. She also explained that if she was ever put in Cassie Bernall, Rachel Scott, or Valeen Schnurr's position, she would say yes:

How many will die
I will die
I, I will say yes
-"Cassie" Flyleaf

(Do you believe)
Do you believe in God (Do you believe)
Do you believe in God (Do you believe)
Do you believe in God
And I will pull the trigger
- Last stanza in the song "Cassie" Flyleaf

And so even though it happened over a decade ago, I still send my condolences to Cassie Bernall and Rachel Scott's families, because they were christian martyrs and they had died. Valeen Schnurr has survived her shot and I'm very happy for her.
